The first question everyone asks is ‘Why a comedy festival?’ Well the answer is pretty simple. It seems Malaysia has a celebration for every other activity – jazz, theatre, film, TV, music, dance, songwriting, not to mention the Malaysia Book of Records, carnivals, parades and ethnic and or religious festivities – so why not comedy?
PJLA Theatre in Jaya One will be turned into a barrel of laughs, starting April 30th to May 30th 2010.
“It’s so funny, can die wan lah” was one of the many quotes that spawned PJ Live Arts (‘PJLA’) Theatre and confirmed its sentiment that people in general loves a good laugh. PJLA has played host to many comedy shows since its opening in August 2009 with more than 15,000 visitors to its theatre with many being first-time theatre goers.
1. To utilize arts as a platform to enable PJLA to continue to improve & support community programs, sharing of literary works and joy;
2. The aim of this festival is to enhance and promote PJ as a renewed and vibrant city through innovative, fun theatrical works for the community;
3. Create further opportunities, awareness and growing audiences for theatrical and artistic works in PJ;
4. To showcase Malaysian-bred talented comedians and to strengthen the relationship between the audience and the community;
5. Most of all, to bring people to the theatre, show them a good time and have them leave with a smile on their faces and feeling good about the world.
